Chapter Nine - The Elfwhisper

Year 1000 of the 4th Era - Autumn

Gully meets with Nar'herix once again, and the Demon Queen reveals more details sabout Aramus departure. Aramus came to her, and asked her to find a man he did not know, a man who had escaped from the mythical prison of Manzessine. If Gully will arrange the meeting with Count Noliss, Nar'herix will reveal to her where to find this man, whose name is Marnavar.

Gully decides to agree to this requests, and asks the Emperor to grant the meeting. The Emperor, concedes, but also informs Gully that there won't be more favours on his part.

Nar'herix reveals to Gully that Marnavar has taken up a life of banditry and pillaging, and was last spotted in the neighbourhood of the town of Grassguard. (Adv. The Elfwhisper)

The group travels to Grassguard, a small hamlet of a little more than 200 souls, and start investigating. Apparently, the bandits have recently attacked a farm, slaughtering everyone there.

Night approaching, our heroes decide to take some rooms in town, and investigate the farm the day after. During the night, Tharod takes a stroll in town, and has a creepy encounter. He approaches a dilapidated shack, where he founds a mad half-elf, singing an awful song. In the rare moments of clarity, the madman reveals that ghosts infests the Wildwood, the ghosts of elves singing an awful song that killed his music.

Our heroes decide to investigate the Earfield farm, the one attacked by the bandits, where they find several tracks of heavy horse moving toward the Wildwood.

They enter into the Wildwood, and after a few encounters with the local fauna, they reach the ruins of an ancient Elven city, where the bandits made camp. There, they only find the corpses of the bandits, apparently dead due to intense fear. As they investigate, Undead Shadows raise from the corpses and attack them. Boulbagh the Barbarian falls under the attack of the Shadows, his strength completely depleted, his body laying on the ground as a dead husk. When all seems lost, the Shadows disappear, leaving the field to another werid encounter... a small army of Elven Ghosts appear, singing a dreadful song.

The leader of the ghosts, the Elven Princess Ilnumenine, possesses Ghalan, and explains to the Heroes that to end the curse of the Elves, they need to retrieve a silver harp stolen by her wicked sisters, and destroy the root of evil.

The group travels to the nearby bog, home of Ilnumenine's sisters, and meet with Marnavar the bandit, saving him from certain death from shifting muds. They seize him and bind him, while Gully ascertains that this man is indeed the one that accompained her father to the prison of Manzessine. Leaving further questions for later, they go deeper into the bog, and find the lair of the three sister, who have turned into Hags. After defeating the hags, our Heroes find the Silver Harp in a trapped room, that almost drowns them all.

During the chaos, Marnavar manages to escape. The heroes encounter him a few moments later, fallen victim of a Black Pudding in an underground lake. Edaar and Tharod immediately throw themselves in danger, but the Ooze is a dangerous opponent. During the struggle, Edaar and Marnavar lose their lives.

The group returns to the Elven Runis, where they play the Harp and summon the Ygwannach, the cursed spirit of the forest. They manage to defeat it, helped by the ghostly army of elves.

The curse is lifted, and our heroes return to Grassguard to mourn their dead and celebrate their victory.
